It's Children's Day...

...so please listen to Samuel L Jackson's beautiful rendition of one of the most popular children's books of the past year, Adam Mansbach's Go the Fuck to Sleep (also sold under the more ambiguous title Go the F**K to Sleep). Highly therapeutic for sleep-deprived parents.

  1. It's not exactly a children's book. In fact, it is not at all a children's book (unless you want to teach your children an early lesson in the innovative ways in which the word 'fuck' can be used).

It is a book for parents to quote to each other in efforts to maintain sanity as they try to finish watching a film five evenings after they started or for muttering to oneself while patting a squirming child to sleep, all the time resisting the urge to smack. Hard.

  2. Shrabonti: I know, I was being a little ironic. (Though I also have to say, it should be a children's book.)

  3. An even better rendition is the one narrated by Werner Herzog at the NYPL. The link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3xFZ0A15Bg

  4. Thank you for sharing this. My wife and I became parents to twin daughters last year. Therefore our appreciation of this is really driven by having an actual context. Many a night have we felt exactly what Samuel L says.

The expression sleep like a baby was probably meant to be a sarcastic quote. Or it is something that happens to other babies.

The girls make it up in the daytime though by being outrageously cute and wonderfully devious at the same time.
