Going to Sri Lanka...

...for a week. Or Ceylon, as my dadi persists in calling it. Much-needed break after all the family illnesses/troubles of the last few months (don’t even want to think about how many enticing travel assignments I’ve had to turn down in the past year).

Will mostly be in the highlands and non-coastal areas: Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Sigiriya, Dambulla, Anuradhapura. Won’t have Net access for most of the time I’m away, but will hopefully have some pictures to put up next week. Back on the 28th. Bye-bye.

  3. Enjoy the trip :)
Btw, how about a Jimmy Stewart post when you come back? To mark his centenary :)

  4. Shrikanth: actually, I've almost finished writing a post on Vertigo (which also turned 50 earlier this month) - can't post it yet because a shorter version of it will appear in the New Sunday Express next week, but will put it up sometime after I'm back. Had been planning a Stewart centenary post but haven't been able to re-watch enough of his films recently and didn't want to make very generalised observations.

Sangeetha: thanks! With the weather in Delhi being what it is, I'm hoping the flight tonight doesn't get too delayed - because we're on a very tight schedule for tomorrow morning.

  5. Ooh, do report back, please - am planning to honeymoon there and battling mild security paranoia on the part of friends and family members. Recommendations much appreciated, too, especially on Anuradhapura vs. Polonnurawa.

  9. Have a good trip! Sigiriya (the fort/walled city) and Dambulla are lovely, bit of a climb to negotiate at both places but well worth the effort!

  10. Do carry some Odomos though. One of my friends had a tough time in Sri Lanka last month. Each time he went to the bathroom, he was attacked by a zillion mosquitos :) FYI, their population may depend on the weather and proximity to the coast.

    Enjoy your trip.

  12. Hello! I've been reading your blog for about a year and I enjoy it immensely.
Hope your holiday is going/went well.
This is a bit of an off-topic comment: I was wondering if you had read the NY Times article by Emily Gould? If yes, any views? Just curious, since your pov on most subjects is pretty interesting.
