Randomly: Jimmy, Simple, Dimple

The Tata Sky programme schedule has a new spin on the Oedipal undercurrents in many Hindi films. The synopsis for the cult Mithun musical Disco Dancer reads thus:
After his mother's death Jimmy finds himself unable to perform. Will he be able to recover from the tragedy and start performing again?
(And some memorable quotes from the film here, including the pathos-laden "He's got guitar phobia. A guitar killed his mother." Beats Deewaar's "Mere paas ma hai" hollow.)

In unrelated news, remember this post about the frantic rearrangement of dates of birth whenever a Bollywood celebrity approaches a milestone age like 50 or 60? Now the fudging enters brave new dimensions: not only do we find that real sisters Dimple and Simple Kapadia were born two months apart in the same year, the Wikipedia entry on Simple even cheekily informs us that she is a month and a half younger than her sister. (It neglects to add that this makes their mother the greatest multi-tasker of all time.)

  1. Have you noticed this line in the plot summary-- "Jimmy must claim first place for Team India at the International Disco Dancing Competition amidst strong competition from Team Africa and Team Paris." Nice , huh?
And have you watched the movie? A memorable performance by rajesh Khanna- I remember him playing guitar , One hand glued to a single spot on the intsrument, the other strumming away to glory, face dramatically devoid of expression!Jimi Hendrix could not have made it more natural... What an actor- seriously!! One of our all time Greats!

  3. The earnest stupidity will quickly get edited out at Wikipedia. (Perhaps they are step-sisters or adopted sisters?) In any case, you should photograph the Wikipedia page. In the meanwhile, for the record, here is a copy-and-paste job from Simple Kapadia's page:

She started her career in 1976 in Anurodh. She is younger to Dimple Kapadia by one and half months and made her acting debut in Anurodh (1977) opposite her then brother-in-law, Rajesh Khanna. During the years that followed, she acted in numerous movies. Her roles included: a sensual dancer in "Lootmaar"; a vamp in "Pyar Ke do pal"; a desirable thief in "Shaaka"; and a role in "Jeevan Dhara".
