The comments section of this blog has started to resemble the Rediff.com message boards. Just got this comment on an old post about a Rahul Dravid biography:

No doubt that Rahul Dravid is the sexiest sportsman in India today. He has those gorgeous lips and marks on his cheeks add to his sexiness. Not only girls but also boys feel him to be sexy. Even I being a boy would like to deeply kiss him.
For reasons I can’t put my finger on, this makes me think of Federer and Nadal. What are the odds that if they meet in the Rome Masters or French Open final, the start of the match will be delayed because our two champs are busy holding hands and looking deep into each other’s eyes? Or that they take off on a cruise down the Seine together after the tournament?
There’s no doubt this is a great rivalry. But it's something more. When was the last time you saw Borg and McEnroe doing this?
Oops sorry, the last one (courtesy Turbanhead) wasn't part of the series. Don't know how that happened...
Love that second pic. And indeed Rafa is cuter than Mirka Vavrinec...
ReplyDeleteThis post really made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteIt might be because I am sixty but I don't find Rafa remotely sexy.
His bad temper, lank hair and ridiculous shirts are quite a turn-off!
Perhaps the old pheromones have got to Federer ...
Deborah: I think we discussed this before on the comments section of this post. Lank hair and ridiculous shirts I accept, but you'll have to explain that bit about Nadal's "bad temper" to me. He's easily one of the best-behaved, maturest players on the circuit, very similar to Federer in that he lets his racquet do the talking. Being rambunctious and fist-pumping after winning a point are another matter, but I can't recall him ever being bad-tempered towards the opponent or the umpire.
ReplyDeleteRediff boards?Actually your blog commenters are a lot more mature. On most other popular blogs,we have to endear comments like "OMG I AM FIRST,NOW I WILL READ THE POST","I AM IN TOP 10",etc,etc.
ReplyDeleteAbhinav: I know, it's fun when someone goes "OMG, I'M THE FIRST TO COMMENT" and it turns out that comment moderation was on and they really weren't the first. It's such little pleasures that make blog-surfing worthwhile. But for a truly entertaining insight into the human condition, there's nothing to beat the Rediff messages boards, especially the ones about cricket and Bollywood.
ReplyDeleteCheshire cat: I don't know what it says about me that I agree about Rafa being cuter than Mirka.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be obsessed with that Dharamveer movie. I remember another post by you on that movie.
ReplyDeleteI suppose you are right Jabberwock, I must just be irritated by the fellow.
ReplyDeleteThe same recoil happens to me when i watch Tiger Woods playing golf, he takes it all so seriously and seems to be bad tempered when he makes mistakes. In his interviews he is invariably charming and patient with daft questions.
I just prefer the sportsmen who manage to keep cool in adversity. (and the women who don't grunt)!
Also laughed at all those Dharamveer photos.
(Alert: smiley ahead) Jai, this constant invocation (and ribbing of) Dharam Veer has GOT TO STOP :-) Baradwaj
ReplyDeleteHa ha.. Love your blog. Awesome stuff. Will be a regular from now on. :)
ReplyDeleteBut Anonymous, Jai doesn't hate smileys quite as much as we all think. Do you Jai?
ReplyDelete;)
Its a real sportsmanship from Nadal and Federer. Both are very aggressive on the field after the play they respects each others talent..good..!

ReplyDeletegeez..can you BE any more homophobic?!
ReplyDeleteJ, this is the one blog that doesnt need page 3 paparazzi-style merde to get readers. Never has, never should.
ReplyDeleteAnon: could you BE any more Chandler Bing?!
ReplyDeleteFelix: hmm, so that's why I put up this post - to get readers!
A very nice research done by you.
ReplyDeleteIt really helps peoples to get more close to the indian youth.
I must say " Awesome".
"We're totally different types, you know? He's a lefty, I'm a righty. He's got a double-handed backhand, I've got the one-handed backhand. Two different characters - that always works well in the game of tennis. The dress code is different: He's got that long hair, mine is a bit shorter. He's young, I'm kind of, you know, the experienced type. So I think it's got great potential."
