RJ-ing means never having to say you're sorry

(overheard on the car radio this morning; an RJ gushing about the film Love Story, just after she’d played the title song)

"I don’t think there can be a single human being walking the face of the earth who didn’t feel boundless love oozing out of every pore of their bodies when they first saw this film."

Now I’m broadminded enough to accept that I must share the planet with people who liked that film. But did that sentence really need "single human being", "face of the earth", "boundless love", "oozing" and "pore of their bodies" all packed into it? Radio jockeys, I tell you. I’m going to have an accident one of these days just because it’s dangerous to take notes while driving.

  1. You know how it is---they pick up some big sounding words, rattle them together, and come up with statements like these! "Official" statements sound like that too, except the words are different. I guess in RJ-ing and VJ-ing, hyperboles are par for the course!

  2. Oh God! Yes, I heard it too! At least you didn't hear her say 'BEEEautiful, BEEautiful' song. The absolutely WORST RJ though, is Ms Kiran, who hosts the AIR FM Rainbow programme on Monday mornings. She's got to be related to someone important at the studio. She's an RJ from hell. As though Monday mornings weren't bad enough.
    Do listen.

  3. Whatever happened to good ol' Parvati Rathore?

The angrezi-wallahs are generally worse than the Hindi-speaking RJs. Although come to think of it, some of the Hindi-wallahs are pretty bad, especially when they try to become Ameen Sayani knock-offs.

  4. All those phrases put together bring to mind only one thing: PIMPLES.

The other primary concern of the general population that flips out on Love Story.

    PIMPLES.

  5. Brother: Where did you buy the Sholay DVD from? Any chance you can pick up a copy for me? The one with the additional footage of Gabbar dying and of Ramu kaka knocking in the nails in the shoes? Need it for a friend in Pakistan?

  6. Shamya, I didn't buy it from anywhere, I saw it at Raghu's place three years ago. But I hear it's available on DVD now in many places. Can check at Palika Bazaar but I don't know if they'd have the alternative ending advertised on the cover. Also, how do I get it across to you?
