Two links

John Updike’s review of the new Marquez, here (Updike is that rare creature, a top-drawer novelist who’s also a great critic. I love his reviews – though this one isn’t among his very best) ;
and Ian Jack on the semi-colon, here (thanks for the link, Nikhil).

  3. Thanks for the New Yorker link, dude. Updike on Marquez, pleasures can't get more perfect than that!

  4. Both links were absolute gems. I have another analogy for semi colon: It works like the eponymous organ in the human body -- the essential semi-pause before faecal matter is purged out, making sense of everything around. Long live the semi colon!

  5. How hideous is the semi-colon. (Watt by Samuel Beckett)

    You're welcome. I quite like the semi colon. Cheers.
