Excerpt from press release

A few lines from a press release I got today. My mailbox is full of suchlike material each morning, which is one reason I don’t like switching my computer on.

NO PROBLEM to bike breakdowns

CROSS ROADS comes to rescue with the launch of BIKE HELPLINE

Together with your splendid fantasy you are zooming fast on a bike, enjoying the gentle wind, indulging in the pleasures of your drive. Suddenly your rocketing gizmo gives a hiccup. Ignoring the warning you move on that eventually banks out a cost in no time. In a span of few meters, your much-esteemed bike surrenders to the faults of its defective body language, compelling you to deviate your attention to the poor vehicle. You are in a fix as the deserted stretch houses no aid. But relax is the word if you know Cross Roads "24 hr BIKE HELPLINE". With Cross Roads new "24 hr BIKE HELPLINE" service, the solution of the problem is just a call away.

  1. Wish people who write these tortuous press releases could be given a course in un-creative writing. It's amazing how they persist in thinking that they could have been journalists had the money seemed more attractive and they wax on in the hope, maybe, that some editor will be impressed by their literary flourish and invite them on board, making them an offer they can't refuse.

In my line of work, too, I regularly recieve such vile attempts at writing -- though I quite look forward to them for the simple and harmless amusement they often provide. One recent gem -- in a press release for some furniture show, an ottoman or a love seat or some such frivolity was actually described thus: "you will be confused as to whether it's a chair or a paramour". Yes, you heard right.

Wish these people would just stick to the FACTS instead of thinking they can help hapless journalists with the onerous task of writing the actual story, which they evidently thinking they can do better!

  6. Cross roads does not promise what it delivers, I myself had subscribed to their services for 2 years. Last month my car broke down for the first time and I called them up, They did come to the spot and said it was a major fault and the vehicle would have to be taken to the repair shop, I asked them about their free towing upto 5 kilometers. The said they no longer do that, I called the helpline and they also declined the free towing upto 5 kilometres. This is a false claim they make while giving you juicy highlights of their service. I did not expect this from them. I am looking for another company which delivers what it promises.
