Does anyone else get dozens of emails that have long and colourful special characters making up the Sender and Subject, and are dated “19 January, 2038” (which is a Tuesday, if anyone’s interested)?
This is all on Yahoo Mail, by the way. (No major problems on Gmail – whatever spam comes there goes straight to the Spam folder.) Would appreciate suggestions for spam-control because it’s very tiresome to have to keep bulk-deleting mails with subjects that go ¡¸¡¹¡¸¡¹ 5¤jª¾¦W¤kÀu¡ ª÷§`¤å¤l / ¹a¤ì³Â©`ü ¥Ã/Åy / »¤s¸t¡@¡µL ½X¼v ¤ù¡¸¡¹¡¸¡¹PQK±¥Î·§Ú³Ì±M·~¢pªL®i¦t and suchlike.
(One upside, if you’re looking for upsides, is that the date ensures that the mails appear at the very top of the Inbox – unlike some of the other spam I get, which is dated December 1955 and has to be searched for.)
why aren't these going into your junk mail forlder automatically? maybe you need to mark as spam before deleting them.
ReplyDeleteNope, that hasn't worked. Keep marking them as spam but they show up in the Inbox regardless.
ReplyDeleteif 2035 appears on the top 1955 will appear at the bottom
ReplyDeleteNot so. I've been receiving emails since 1921.
ReplyDeleteYou're using Yahoo as your primary mail ID, yes? Else, you should check the gmail spam folder every few days, cause sometimes mail that isn't spam ends up there.
ReplyDeleteCan't say about Yahoo, but in Gmail you could have set a filter, like I did. All the spam mails contained links to geocities, and now all mails sent to me with 'geocities' in them are sent straight to trash. (details)
In other words, Jai, switch permanently to Gmail. Easier to work with.
ReplyDeleteNikhil: no, I don't use Yahoo as my primary mail ID - you're the only one who regularly mails me there :D And I do check Gmail spam.
ReplyDeleteCheck if you've got some sort of spyware infection that is flagging you.

ah, okay. I remember you telling me that you use gmail only for storage...but that was over a year ago. I suppose- things have changed. :)
ReplyDeleteBut what if it's a real message?! From the future! *Gasp!*
ReplyDeleteRahul: this is what worries me also. What if I reach 2038, a wise old man of 60-plus, to find everyone there speaking in special characters that I can't understand?
ReplyDeleteDo you use official email id something like youremail at yourdomain dot com.
ReplyDeleteIf yes I can help you out, my email id johnpeterm at gmail dot com
