And yes, of course...Very sorry to hear that, Deepa. And yes, of course one wonders and teeth-gnashes a lot about these things. But I also feel sometimes that I can understand or relate to the sort of inertia and inaction that sometimes leads to such situations becoming irreversible. And at a proximate level, there were a few reasons that might help explain my mother's behaviour to a degree: including the fact that I was so caught up with handling my grandmother's medical situations (in addition to dealing with the immediate release publicity around my new book) that my mother thought it would be too much of an extra burden on me when she first suspected that she had breast cancer. Then she claimed there was a period of 2-3 months when the swelling had abated, and she convinced herself it had been a false alarm; and when it came back, she realised it had probably gone too far. I don't know if like me, you wondered why an educated woman would not address the most curable of cancers early on. The fatalism that led to death too young, not seeing grandkids, not living for another 20 or 30 years, I never understood it. I get annual mammograms because I want to live to see my own grandkids.Deepahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16219562673830710247noreply@blogger.com
