The 'Devil' stories, were some sort of a counterpoint to the slightly depressing stories (which though have dark humor in them)WordsBeyondBordershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17977837061092838646noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-76045054545459046142009-05-06T08:40:00.000+05:302009-05-06T08:40:00.000+05:30Arjun: you're entitled to find the reviews annoyin...Arjun: you're entitled to find the reviews annoying of course, but the bit about Proulx "probably regreting" writing BM was self-evidently facetious. I don't really believe that she regrets writing it (in any significant sense of the word "regret").

Also, with reference to the last sentence of your comment on the Jhumpa Lahiri post: I was simply talking about the common allegation about authors writing for a western readership; it isn't something I subscribe to myself. And I hope you realised that I think very highly of most of Lahiri's short stories.Jabberwockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10210195396120573794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-14797634131237187352009-05-06T08:11:00.000+05:302009-05-06T08:11:00.000+05:30I find your reviews rather annoying. They are different things altogether.Arjunnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-27385571371091973862009-01-09T20:27:00.000+05:302009-01-09T20:27:00.000+05:30Banno: not too much like the honeycomb-baby story,...Banno: not too much like the honeycomb-baby story, though it is similarly macabre in places.Jabberwockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10210195396120573794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-63956217511842208472009-01-08T13:03:00.000+05:302009-01-08T13:03:00.000+05:30I've seen the film 'Shipping News'. The writer in this novel, has brought a haunting quality to descriptions which brings to mind Charles Dickens and Gustav Flaubert. A must read for people who like to read fiction, not just for entertainment, but for deeper understanding of human condition too.Surbhihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14574159477091749639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-24328973926770467592009-01-07T20:43:00.000+05:302009-01-07T20:43:00.000+05:30It could see where it all was going on reading the...It could see where it all was going on reading the cactus being fed meat gravy laced water brrr...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
