I was hoping if I could get some help from you on that, since you have analyzed it so well.

Urvashihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12387876017879179969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-8229763848375948092008-11-04T16:22:00.000+05:302008-11-04T16:22:00.000+05:30Sunayana: thanks! James' "The Children of Men" -- this time, it's women rather than children who have disappeared from the world -- but I'm quite sure Padmanabhan has different concerns than James.scritichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17580206482477953167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-64548293267837955702008-10-29T19:35:00.000+05:302008-10-29T19:35:00.000+05:30Aditya: I reviewed Matrubhoomi here. Coincidentally the first comment on that post is by Manjula - I made that connection only midway through writing this review. (We discussed it during an email Q&A subsequently.)

Falstaff: I wouldn't take that assertion completely at face value: also bear in mind that Padmanabhan is hardly a very mainstream writer (and she is known for shying away from attention/treading her own path). But if you've been underwhelmed by her past work, it's probably best to skip this.Jabberwockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10210195396120573794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-72423483937236638522008-10-29T19:07:00.000+05:302008-10-29T19:07:00.000+05:30You know, I wish you hadn't included that last quo...You know, I wish you hadn't included that last quote - I was actually thinking that the book sounded interesting till then, despite the fact that I've been underwhelmed by Ms. Padmanabhan's work in the past. But a 'writer' who will only write a book if there's a market for it? No thanks.Falstaffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09791162324919462038noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-35562198677416822652008-10-29T18:45:00.000+05:302008-10-29T18:45:00.000+05:30Ok, so you've totally sold me the book.. :) But on...Ok, so you've totally sold me the book.. :) But on a more serious note, the novel does seem to fascinating....the use of a fictitious manual is of course a classic SF tool, be it the "Encyaclopedia Galactica" in Foundation, or the eponymous "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy". The overall settings remind me of Manish Jha's film "Matrubhoomi" , a film which was brilliant in parts, but ultimately flattered to deceive...

P.S. The first Foundation novel is in fact a collection of loosely connected short stories, and not a novel per se.... so I guess you can get started :)Aditya Mani Jhahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13288886815027491282noreply@blogger.com
