It took him three years to edit Days of Heaven, I have heard. There was also a rumour circulating that JD who has not sold the rights of "Catcher in the Rye" to anyone yet was being pursued by Terrennce himself, but I guess nothing came of it. There is this new director called David Gordon Green who has got a Malick like visual sense in him, new kid on the block.

About Badlands, I love the way he uses the technique of inetrior monologues and about Saving vs. TTRL, I almost got into a riot with the Spielberg fans over which movie was superior on a film forum.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-1100796333508281462004-11-18T22:15:00.000+05:302004-11-18T22:15:00.000+05:30Won't get into discussing The Thin Red Line here.....Won't get into discussing The Thin Red Line here... loved it after seeing it at PVR Priya some years back (when it released here), despite being extremely drunk at the time. One of two movies I went to inebriated - is that why I loved TTRL and Amistad so much?
Anyway...chanced across this link with a trailer of TTRL...you might want to check it out if you haven't already.
http://www.foxmovies.com/thinredline/Black Muddy Riverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15955846722038215253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204542.post-1100778194911544342004-11-18T17:13:00.000+05:302004-11-18T17:13:00.000+05:30Great post on Terence Malik. However, a lot others didn't like it probably because they had gone in hoping to see an all-out guts-n-glory flick. Also, the fact that Thin Red Line and Saving Private Ryan were released just a couple of months apart (if I am not mistaken) prompted the inevitable comparisons. There is a sequence in Thin Red Line which stands out for its treatment: During a especially terrifying artillery attack, one of the soldiers goes insane. The camera follows the man as he runs around oblivious of the shells exploding inches away from him. On the soundtrack there is complete silence, which serves to heighten the feeling of disorientation among the audience.
It's simply brilliant and definitely worth a look!
The way the film addresses the devastation caused by war -- and at different levels -- makes it, in my estimation, one of the greatest anti-war films I have ever seen.Tridibhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18324851679164286161noreply@blogger.com
