Favourite quote from Oscar ceremony so far

“Looking at all the tuxedos here tonight, it feels like we’re watching the film all over again.”
(from one of the producers of March of the Penguins, which won for best documentary feature)

Also enjoyed Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin’s take-off on the “naturalised” overlapping conversations in Robert Altman’s films (before they presented him with the lifetime achievement trophy).

  1. this time was pretty bland i'd say. but then i missed th efirst hour or so.

my favourite was when adrian brody handed out the award to charlize theron; he used some mouth spray in advance!

  2. er--the Adrian Brody moment wasn't this year, i hasten to add.

not even sure i'm going to watch the awards again this evening. just not snappy enough.

  4. Yeah, Jennifer Garner was rather funny back there. One rather wonders what Aishwarya Rai would have done under similar circumstances. The mind boggles and urges body to throw up.

  5. Bagchi: frightening images are flashing through my mind. She'd probably first have giggled horribly and then died out of sheer embarrassment.

  6. Apparently, "March of the Penguins" made more money than all the other nominated movies combined.

Gawd, why are they so boring these days! I can't believe I'm longing for nutcases like Roberto Benigni.

  7. They are boring because edgy loses viewers and therefore advertising and phat cash. Like so much else is Hollywood, it's all about the bottom line. That's why no Chris Rock and why Jon Stewart was unusually dull.

  8. I kind of liked what Jack Nicholson did after he said the name of the film... 'good night, and good luck.' he walked away.

    kinda made me wonder.

  9. Thank heavens it wasn't hosted by Chris Rock. He was mean. Not funny.

I'm longing for the Billy Crystal days.

Imho, Crash wasn't worthy of a best picture Oscar.

  10. Chris Rock WAS mean but it was nice seeing Hollywood get taken down a peg or two. Jude Law WAS doing too much that year. Everything he said was true. I agree on CRASH. Brokeback was the better film. IMHO History of Violence and Hidden/Cache were the best of 2005.
